5 Better Place Australia specialists speaking at 2024 Australian Elder Abuse Conference

The 2024 Australian Elder Abuse Conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 22 – 24 July. It’s time to stand up to elder abuse.

According to the Victorian Crime Statistics database, (L17 police reports of family incidents), the number of affected family members in Victoria over the age of 65 has risen by 35% over the past four years. This increase starkly contrasts with the general population report increase of just 11% over the same period.

This highlights the disproportionate rise in the abuse of older people.

The Better Place Australia Respecting Elders Program is a specialist frontline response service supporting victims of elder abuse.

Five Better Place Australia specialists will be speaking at the conference on a range of issues, including:

  • Older Women: Sexual assault and intimate partner violence
  • IVO/AVO in elder abuse – Help or hindrance?
  • Accessing elder abuse services: Governments, we need to talk!
  • Primary prevention and ageism awareness
  • Awareness of elder abuse risk in Residential Aged Care Facilities.

It’s time to turn up the volume and help stop the silence about elder abuse.
